YOUTH PROJECT
YOUTH PROJECT
GCCA have been running a youth project since 2014, when a group of parents agreed to assist Trustees with the running of a weekly session for local 7-11 year olds.
Always popular, the project eventually switched to a paid part time staffing supported by parent volunteers.
2017 saw the development of the Pegasus project for Year 6 children making the transition from small village school to much larger and more intimidating secondary schools in west Cornwall. Pegasus has thrived since then in partnership with Godolphin Primary School and in 2026 Molly Blewett and Jenna Kitchen hold the reins of the project.
Along the way, we have tried hard to add a youth project for the 11-18 year olds, adding an arts focus to try to encourage a wider take up. At May 2026, this older session isn't running, but we hope to remedy that as soon as funds can be found - and the staff to fill the vacancies that will be created.
There have been many highlights - adventure days, Forest School, circus skills, trips out, expeditions to London, fundraising events etc etc - but perhaps the recruitment of former youth club attendees into paid or volunteer positions in the youth programmes is the most satisfying (and the most telling) evidence that what we set out to do almost 12 years ago has had a positive impact on our community.
Currently, the Tuesday evening youth group runs from 5.30 to 7.30 pm, term time only, and Pegasus is open to all Year 6 kids at Godolphin Primary on Thursdays after school.
